Bio

Evans is an artist, educator, writer, and curator. His work deals with the connections between video game art, 3D animation, software production, and the art historical past as well as the tensions between global technological powers and local media cultures. He holds an MA in art history and an MFA in new media art from University of Illinois at Chicago. His artwork has been exhibited at UnionDocs NY, The Luminary St. Louis, Chicago Artist Coalition, Antenna Space Shanghai, Hyde Park Art Center, The Nightingale, Evanston Art Center, and other venues. He has taught courses on video games, creative programming, web art, 3D modeling and animation, media-enabled performance, and other new media topics.  His writing has been published through Routledge, Journal of Games Criticism, MediaCommons, A.V. Club, and Motherboard.  His curatorial work has been presented at Mana Contemporary, Ars Electronica, Christian Petersen Art Museum, MICA Dolphin Gallery, Columbia College Arcade Gallery, Gallery 400, and others. Evans is Director of Exhibitions and Co-Founder of VGA Gallery, an art organization based in Chicago that supports artists who make video games. He regularly speaks and facilitates public conversations on new media and video game art.
