School of Visual Art and Design

For Students

Our School of Visual Art and Design students are hard at work making, building, documenting, and dreaming about the next big thing. Below are resources and useful links for School of Visual Art and Design students to support their work and studies. Stay involved, whether it be through university-recognized clubs, internships, or more.

Internships

Our degree programs can prepare you for successful work and careers in many art, design, media, and culture fields. We encourage our students to find internships in an area of interest. The Career Center can help you prepare for an internship, and Handshake can help you find and apply for an internship in the Columbia area. There are two internship courses for the school: SVAD 499 (for students in media arts and studio art) and ARTH 503 (for students in art history). Speak with your advisor to learn how to enroll.

Community

The School of Visual Art and Design fosters a sense of community in the arts. With connections to the Columbia Museum of Art, the Nickelodeon Theater, the 701 Center for Contemporary Art, the Moving Image Research Collections, and interdisciplinary programs at the university, you can gain exposure to new and exciting ideas, programs, and visitors from all fields of practice and study.

Student Organizations
