undergraduate and graduate students are engaged in hands-on art and media making,
teaching, and arts-related research of all kinds. Our students are excelling in internships,

thesis exhibitions, and participating in Columbia, South Carolina’s thriving art scene
that includes museums, galleries, community art centers, a film festival and art house

Undergraduate Research Awards
Congratulations to Eric Friendly, an art history major and incoming graduate student,
for winning the first place Undergraduate Reseach Award for “Entering the Studio-
Raphael Soyer (c. 1935),” a research paper for Art History 501: Methodologies of Art
History. Dr. Susan Felleman, professor of art history and film and media studies,
was Eric's advisor and professor for the course and paper. Eric's paper was the first
art history paper to win a University Libraries Undergraduate Research Award since
the award's inception in 2008.

Brad Collins, professor of Art History has received the prestigious Michael J. Mungo
Distinguished Professor of the Year award which is presented annually to an outstanding
