On February 8, 2019, Emily Ritter (Associate Professor of Political Science, Vanderbilt University) visited the Department. She outlined a project that draws on economic models to explain decision making under conditions of risk. The talk emphasized the importance of moving beyond a focus on groups to understand how repression affects people's decision to protest. Ritter has a forthcoming book at Oxford University Press with Courtenay Conrad on the relationship between dissent and repression.
