Seeking Assistant Professor in Ancient Philosophy

 

The faculty of the Philosophy Department at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2025.

Candidates must have their PhD by the time of the appointment.

The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester, including courses in ancient philosophy to undergraduate students and to our graduate (MA and PhD) students. The successful candidate will also be expected to conduct a research program in ancient philosophy that contributes to the department’s research strengths and to perform the usual departmental and professional service. We are especially interested in candidates whose research brings the wisdom of ancient philosophy to bear on current topics and issues.

The Department of Philosophy offers an undergraduate major in Philosophy, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy. We are the only Ph.D. and MA granting institution in Philosophy in South Carolina.
