Training Description | This is a 3-part, virtual training that focuses on the basics of child death investigations. This training will be broken up into 3, 2-hour blocks and offered on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule. Topics will include causes and manners of child deaths; response and review of a child death, to include an overview of the Child Death Investigation Task Force; proper procedures for conducting reenactments; interviewing parents/caregivers and witnesses; collecting, documenting, and preserving evidence; procedures for photographic documentation; documenting investigative findings; multi-disciplinary coordination of investigations; and the appropriate roles of DSS and law enforcement. Applicable definitions from the Children’s Code and criminal statutes will also be addressed. This training will be offered online. |

CE Credits | The SC Criminal Justice Academy has approved 2 hours, per part, for continuing education hours. DSS investigators will receive 2 hours, per part, for general contact hours. AMBDI is expected to approve 2 hours of continuing education credit for each part. To receive all 6 hours of credit, you must attend all 3 parts. |
