Discover USC 2023 organizers are excited to share details to help presenters, mentors, reviewers, volunteers and visitors get prepared—and excited—for the big day on Friday, April 21, 2023.

New for 2023: Search, filter and save details about Discover USC presentations

Want to browse Discover USC presentations online and make a list of can’t-miss posters? We’ve got you covered! The Find a Presenter tool is now live and ready to help users find the details they need on all 1,000+ Discover USC 2023 presentations happening next Friday.

We are excited to launch a new Find a Presenter feature for 2023. Users can now export the results of their Find a Presenter searches into a .csv spreadsheet and save details on presentations of interest, including title, abstract, presenter(s), mentor(s), poster number, and time and location.

This export functionality enhances the robust search and filter options users have come to rely on by allowing them to export custom lists for many different purposes:

Participants and colleagues associated with specific campuses, colleges, majors, programs or undergraduate student learning communities can filter to find all Discover USC 2023 presentations associated with their areas.
Mentors can search for their own last name to generate a list of all their mentee presenters to help plan their itinerary.
Reviewers can filter and export a list of presentations in their assigned category and section to view presenter names, abstracts, etc., in a spreadsheet format. (All of these details are also listed in the assignment emails reviewers receive before event day.)
Presenters can filter and export a list of presentations in their assigned category and section, look up friends whose posters they want to visit and more.
Visitors can search for individuals or groups of interest and export results to create a custom list of presentations to visit at Discover USC 2023.

Discover USC over the years

Established in 2017, Discover USC is a relatively new tradition for the USC research and scholarly community. But even new traditions make lasting memories. We are excited to welcome everyone to Discover USC on April 21, 2023, to make even more.

Discover USC started with a bang in 2017, drawing more than 2,000 participants to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center to engage with 1,000 presentations by undergraduate and graduate students, medical and postdoctoral scholars.
Before Discover USC, the university held three spring research events—Discovery Day for undergraduates (pictured), Graduate Student Day and the School of Medicine and Prisma Health USC’s Medical Scholarship Day of Focus. Discover USC changed that by bringing together innovators and scholars at every level of study, from every discipline and every system campus, to create one unified showcase of research, scholarship, leadership and creativity.
Discover USC proudly offers an annual presentation opportunity for postdoctoral scholars who previously did not have a dedicated spring research showcase event at the university.
The inaugural Discover USC showcase in 2017 featured a keynote speech by Nobel Laureate Shuji Nakamura, the Cree Chair in Solid State Lighting and Displays at the University of California Santa Barbara. Dr. Nakamura shared his experiences creating the world’s first bright blue LED, which laid the groundwork for subsequent lighting innovations, including the development of efficient white LED lighting and blue lasers.
As Discover USC has grown and changed over the years—even going virtual in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic—it has always placed presenters front and center in the spotlight, providing a valuable professional development opportunity for students and postdocs throughout the USC system.
As presenters take center stage at Discover USC each year, organizers rely on the dedication of hundreds of volunteers and reviewers who contribute their energy, effort and expertise to make sure presenters and visitors have a top-notch, enriching experience. Discover USC would simply not be possible without these invaluable participants.
USC’s beloved mascot, Cocky, is one of Discover USC’s biggest supporters, attending every year to add levity and spirit to the annual showcase event. Join us for Discover USC 2023 on Friday, April 21, and you might catch a glimpse!
