What is "Coffee Convos?"
Coffee Convos is a program through the Student Success Center that encourages students to connect with their professor outside the classroom. We think it is so important that we pay for you and your professors beverage!
Relationships are pivotal to your success at USC and beyond. Coffee Convos are a great opportunity to grow build those relationships, learn from your professors or just get to know them in a new light.
$17 dollars which can cover two drinks.
Very simple! Come to the SSC's main location on the Mezzanine of Thomas Cooper Library. Bring your Carolina Card and tell our front desk that you'd like to check out a Coffee Convos card.
Once you have met with your professor just bring the card back to the SSC!
All on campus dining locations with the exception of Top of Carolina, the dodie, Russell House Bookstore cafe, and McCutchen House. However, we recommend one of the many coffee shops on campus.
The world is your oyster! Some topics could include: Class material, their academic career, why they chose their career, what they enjoy about teaching, and any advice they might have for you.
Inviting your professor can certainly be intimidating. But remember, they want you to succeed, and they want to get to know you! See an example introcutor email below:
"Hi Professor *Insert last name*,
My name is *insert name* and I am in your *insert course name and section number.* I have really enjoyed your class so far and would love to find time to chat with you and garner some academic advice. The Student Success Center has a program that allows us to chat outside the classroom over a cup of coffee. They will pay for both of our beverages. Would you be willing to meet with me at one of the Starbucks on campus? If so, please let me know what your availability looks like over the next few weeks
Best,
*insert your name*
Often times U101 professors will assign the Coffee Convos program as a way for their students to build relationships with additional professors. Contact the Student Success Center to discuss options for connecting your students with Coffee Convos.
