Office of Organizational Excellence

The office provides four primary services to help units achieve improvements in service, efficiency, and effectiveness. The aim is always to achieve meaningful results.

Project Facilitation
Facilitate process improvement and resource optimization projects.

Project Startup
Guide the successful startup of other improvement projects.

Improvement Foundations Session
Equip groups with practical tools and techniques for improvement, and get them started right away on meaningful improvement projects.

Improvement Leader Program
Each year: Develop a new group of USC improvement leaders through a series of learning sessions and real improvement projects.


Meet the Team

Stacey BradleyServing as USC’s first organizational excellence officer, Stacey Bradley brings years of leadership experience as an improvement champion, the financial acumen of a licensed CPA, and practical operational knowledge from leading and partnering with units across and beyond the university. In her current role, she most often facilitates and guides improvement projects for senior leadership groups and cross-functional project teams. Stacey earned an MBA from the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.  She is also a graduate of Harvard University's Institute for Management and Leadership in Education and Crisis Management in Higher Education program.

Headshot of Tom TerezTom Terez helped launch the Office of Organizational Excellence. As a senior associate, he guides USC improvement teams and develops others to do the same, drawing on his eight years with the university. Tom was a principal architect of the Lean Six Sigma initiative in state government in Ohio. He has worked widely in the private sector, government, and higher education. Along the way, he wrote the book “22 Keys to Creating a Meaningful Workplace” and hundreds of articles on improvement and change – and has developed interactive tools that help individuals and groups uncover improvement opportunities. Tom has an MBA from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.

Maegan GudridgeMaegan Gudridge joined the Office of Organizational Excellence as a senior associate in June 2024. Previously, she served as executive director of communications and marketing in USC’s Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support, where she led organizational change and improvement projects and used improvement tools and techniques to support student and employee success. She has worked at USC since 2005. Maegan earned a master’s degree in mass communication from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in arts management from the College of Charleston.

Olivia CableOlivia Cable serves as administrative coordinator for the Office of Organizational Excellence. Much of her work has been in higher education, including nearly eight years as the University Liaison with the USC Department of Aerospace Studies. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from the College of Charleston.

We approach all our work with the following foundational beliefs:

Collaboration and teamwork are key. Improvement involves change, and change works best when done with people and not to people.

We serve many important groups. Their input should be heard, understood, and used to inform change.

The people who do the work know the work best. They are essential partners in the improvement process.

Improvement should be sustainable over time. By providing tools and guidance to others across the university, we will build our in-house capacity for positive change and results.

The aim is to achieve meaningful results, so it's especially important to track progress and show how this is making a difference.
