Tobacco Cessation and Treatment

You can quit smoking with the right preparation and support. We offer smoking cessation programs and options for a healthier, tobacco-free campus. 

Quitting Options

Get help with tobacco cessation through meeting with a wellness coach to assess readiness to quit tobacco through various motivational interviewing techniques and behavioral change strategies.

Participating in the Program

Make an appointment through MyHealthSpace or call 803-777-6518.

What to Expect
You'll see a trained staff member for four in-person sessions, tailored to your needs. The first is about an hour and the subsequent sessions are usually shorter. 

Faculty and staff can take advantage of the Quit for Life Program, run by the American Cancer Society and Alere Wellbeing.

What To Expect
A professionally trained quit coach will work with you to create a personalized, comprehensive quit plan. The program lasts 12 months, providing free nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum or lozenges) and free unlimited calls to the Quit for Life toll-free support line. If you still need help after the 12 months, you can re-enroll.

Insurance Coverage
The Quit for Life Program is offered by the State Health Plan and the BlueChoice Health Plan for their subscribers and covered dependents. 

Prescription smoking cessation drugs, if recommended, are available through your prescription drug benefit.

Tobacco-Free Campus Policy

The University of South Carolina is a smoke-free campus. We're working to expand the tobacco-free campus policy to reduce the exposure of secondhand smoke among smokers and non-smokers alike.
