UofSC's exchange program at the is designed to help American students gain first hand knowledge of Peruvian culture. The program is located in Lime, Peru. Lima is the largest city in Peru, with approimately 10 million people in its metro area. Students in Lima can enjoy access to Peru's world famous cuisine and breathtaking surf spots.
Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) is the leading private university in the country. With over 50 academic units, the institution strives to enhance knowledge through research and innovation, while fostering the creation of art and culture.
Cost: UofSC resident tuition rates + in-country costs
Requirements: 3.0 GPA, 1 or more 300 level Spanish courses
Students should expect to spend
UPC offers courses in English and Spanish. As courses can fill up quickly, students should be flexible when it comes to course selection. For those interested in developing their Spanish, UPC also offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced Spanish courses. There are no planned excursions with this exchange, but students can participate in the PUCP Buddy Program, which pairs a Peruvian student with an international student. Students will be contacted by their Peruvian buddy before they arrive in Peru, and the PUCP International Student Exchange Division organizes a meeting for the buddies once the semester begins.
Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details.
UPC does not offer on campus housing, but will assist students in finding off-campus housing. Housing may be in the form of student residences or home stays. After students have completed their UPC application, they will receive a list of student residences and family houses from UPC.
Orientation sessions are set one week before the semester starts and are mandatory.
Students will enter Peru with a tourist visa and then change their status with the Migrations Office in Lima once in the country. UPC will provide official documents and guidance on this process.
