UofSC's exchange program in Taiwan is designed to expose students to the life and culture of the Taiwanese people. Hsinchu seamlessly mixes rural and urban culture and is known as the "windy city" of Taiwan for its frequent gusts of wind . Characterized by its friendly people, Hsinchu is also considered the technology center of Taiwan and offers students the unique opportunity to have access to both beaches and mountains. With a total population of six million people, Taiwan will offer students a unique experience while allowing easy access to other parts of Asia.

Requirements: 3.0 GPA

Students on exchange pay in-state tuition directly to USC and do not pay tuition to NTHU. All housing, food, and personal expenses are paid by the student in Hsinchu. The University suggests that students budget approximately NTD 6,370-16,660 per semester for housing and NTD 8,000-15,000 per month for living expenses. The actual cost can differ depending on the student’s lifestyle. This program does not offer organized excursions. Students do have the opportunity for individual travel, and the Foreign Student Association often plans field trips and outings for international students. There are over 100 student-run clubs for students to get involved in at National Tsing Hua University.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details.

Student accommodations include on-campus dormitories and are shared by 4 students. On-campus housing is guaranteed to all foreign students. Off-campus housing may be found independently, as well. 

The Fall semester begins in mid-September and runs through mid-January. There is a five-week break before the Spring semester begins mid-February and runs through the end of June.  

There will be an orientation for all exchange students prior to the start of classes. During orientation, students will be given a brief introduction to student life at National Tsing Hua University as well as register for their pre-approved courses.

All students must have a valid entry visa in order to study in Taiwan. Students who will be in Taiwan less than 180 days will need to apply for a visitor visa. Students who will be in Taiwan more than 180 days will need a resident visa.
