Computer Science and Mathematics

My research experience at UofSC taught me that if you take on each new opportunity head on, you never know where it might take you.

Impactful experience:
Although my time at UofSC has been filled with adventure after adventure, the most impactful experience was in the winter of 2018-19 when I joined my advisor, Dr. Ioannis Rekleitis, for the annual underwater robotics field trials in Barbados. Although exhausting, the trip made me realize that I was capable of making a difference through my work and that anything would be possible if I put my heart into it.

Enjoy most as a TS:
The best part of being a member of the Top Scholar community at UofSC was being surrounded by a group of students whose primary goal was to do amazing things. At any given time, there were always scholars scattered around the globe or participating in world class research, and at the end of the day we could come together and share our experiences. Now, as we all go our separate ways in life, I know everyone will achieve great things.

Story:
Coming to the University of South Carolina, I was worried about getting lost in a sea of thousands of students, but among the large student body, I found my place in the scholar community. Through the connections I made in the top scholars program, I was able to get involved in both robotics and discrete math research, building personal relationships with the professors and fellow students along the way. It may not have been my original plan, but I am thankful that I ended up at UofSC because of all the amazing friends I have made and the endless opportunities that have arisen during my four years here.

Post-graduate plans:
After graduation, Hunter will begin work as a software developer for Epic Systems in Madison, Wisconsin.

Career goals/professional aspirations:
I hope to follow my passion for computer science wherever it takes me, doing whatever I can along the way to improve people's lives through advances in technology.
