Madhura Pande

Wilson High School
Florence, SC
Biological Sciences and Spanish

The University of South Carolina taught me to make the most of spontaneous interactions, as they tend to blossom into impactful connections. What began as a casual lunch with a histology professor is now a three-year relationship with my PI, Dr. Matesic. A brunch date with SCHC Assistant Dean Chappell Wilson led me to M.D./Ph.D. student Gerry Koons, a mentor and now close friend who hosted me in Houston last winter. That same date landed me a job with Chappell’s college friend, Matthew Clary — an experience that piqued my interest in ophthalmology and clinical research. While these connections have shaped me, I am most indebted to Carolina for my roommates and best friends, Grace, Mary and Sonali.

Future plans: Madhura will do clinical research during her gap year while applying to medical school.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
