Women's Well-Being Initiative

Do you want to make a difference in your community?

The Women’s Well-Being Initiative (WWBI) was founded in 2001 by two former WGST faculty, Dr. Lynn Weber and Dr. DeAnne Messias. This program engages faculty, staff, and students in campus-community partnerships that promote the well-being of women and girls in the Midlands, and enhance the recognition of the full diversity of women's experiences across race, class, age, ethnicity, ability, and other dimensions of difference.

Our goals can be encapsulated within three basic principles:

  • Critique public and institutional policies to ensure support for women and girls as they pursue their full potential.
  • Challenge disparities relating to the intersections of race, class, gender, sexuality and other dimensions of social inequality that threaten the well-being of women and girls.
  • Create change through research, teaching, and activism projects that address critical concerns of women and girls, local communities, and the mission of the USC Department of Women's and Gender Studies.
