Carolina Intercultural Training

How can you communicate and connect more effectively with people of different cultures, creed, and origin, specifically with those you encounter on a daily basis at USC? This is the driving question of Carolina Intercultural Training.

Register for a Carolina Intercultural Training

Carolina Intercultural Training, or CIT, is available for USC faculty, staff, students, departments, and affiliated campus partners.

If you are a faculty or staff member at USC, the Carolina Intercultural Training is hosted at the Division of Human Resources Professional Development Office, 1600 Hampton Street. Please register on the Office of Organizational and Professional Development website.

Departments and Offices can request a customized training for their organization. Please complete this form and include some optional days for the workshop.

If you are a graduate or undergraduate student at USC, register for Carolina Intercultural Training using the ISSS Student Sign Up Form.

This workshop is a prerequisite for the Buddies Beyond Borders program and an enhancement activity for the Graduation with Leadership Distinction in Global Learning track. All students are invited to participate.

Carolina Intercultural Trainings for Domestic Buddies are held several times throughout the semester. If you have registered to be a buddy through Buddies Beyond Borders and still need to sign up for a training, please register for either the Graduate and Undergraduate Students training (above), or the Faculty & Staff Training at the top of the list, as fits your own description.

International Buddies are also highly encouraged to attend a training once they arrive in the U.S. Please see the "Graduate Students and Undergraduate Students" categories above for more information.

Carolina Intercultural Trainings are offered for USC departments and offices on-campus that may occasionally work with international students. Trainings can be customized based upon your organization's goals and interactions with people of other cultures.

The Purpose of Carolina Intercultural Training

Did you know that USC hosts more than 1,400 international students from over 95 countries?

The Carolina Intercultural Training focuses on understanding cross-cultural communication styles and exploring strategies for increasing intercultural competence. The workshop includes information on the services of ISSS, USC international student demographics, models of cultural differences, and practical approaches to navigating cultural differences both in a work and classroom setting. Those who complete this workshop will receive an “International Friendly Zone” card.

We encourage you to attend this cross-cultural training, and join with us in promoting a deeper understanding of USC’s diverse populations.  Please register for a training, using the links above, or contact ISSS to request a specific training for your department or organization.
