Program Extensions

Keeping your I-20 or DS-2019 valid is extremely important while you are an international student at UofSC.

What You Need to Know:

Check your I-20 or DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility each semester. If you do not plan to graduate, but your I-20/DS-2019 end date shows an end date within the current semester, you need to extend your immigration document by submitting the Program Extension Form (located in the Forms Library).

A  program extension is typically authorized for one semester, but the maximum extension is one year at a time. If you need more than one year, mention this on your application, but be aware that you will need to get an additional program extension after the initial one year extension.

How to Apply:

Submit your PDF Program Extension application available in the ISS Forms Library to iss@sc.edu or drop off your form at the ISS Front Desk. Digital signatures are permitted. If you have questions, contact us using your preferred method.

You must apply for a program extension in a timely manner, which means you should apply during the semester that your current I-20 expires and at least five business days before your program ends.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
