The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) is the professional society for biomedical engineering and bioengineering. Founded in 1968, the Society now boasts nearly 6,500 members and is growing, rapidly. BMES at UofSC currently consists of approximately 80 members and meets monthly. The Office of Pre-Professional Advising, located at Sumwalt College on Greene Street, assists pre-med, pre-health, and pre-law students acquire the knowledge and the opportunities to help them prepare for their application to grad school.

SCBIO is a member organization that exists to support and advance South Carolina’s life science industry through collaboration, advocacy, workforce development, and support for business operations.
Once each semester, usually around spring and fall break, respectively, BME holds block advisement to help upper-class students plan their coursework for the upcoming semester. Students have to attend one of the block advisement sessions offered to be cleared for course registration for the upcoming semester.
