Access and Training
If you’re interested in starting a project, stop by and discuss your project with one of our machinists during drop-in hours. We currently offer customized training each semester. We prioritize access and training in the following order: coursework (capstone design), student research, and just want to learn. The Student Access Machine Shop is open exclusively to CEC students.
We provide:
- Fabrication of prototype mechanical equipment for research
- Safety and operational training on equipment
- Assistance in the design/fabrication of research and academic projects
- Space and tools for students to learn and explore fabrication techniques

- Ask for help if you are not familiar with the particular machine, tool, or procedure.
- Safety glasses must be worn at all times.
- The two person rule is always in effect.
- Do not operate machinery with loose clothing or jewelry.
- Long hair must be tied back and contained.
- No open toed shoes allowed.
- Clean machinery every time you use it.
- Report any machine that has been damaged. This may keep the next user from getting hurt.
- Please help keep the shop clean and safe. If you abuse the shop, you will lose your privilege to use it.
