Your home for quality emotional and behavioral health care services

Mission: The PSC’s mission is two pronged.

1. Provide quality training to doctoral students in the Clinical-Community and School Psychology doctoral programs in evidenced-based clinical assessment and therapy. Such training is necessary not only for graduating competent students from these programs, but it is also a requirement for accreditation by the American Psychological Association.

2. Provide mental health services to underserved populations. Data provided by Mental Health America, ranks South Carolina 45th in access to mental health care. The majority of our clients are uninsured, underinsured, or cannot afford their insurance’s copay. We offer affordable treatment to those who are underserved.

Our Vision:

The PSC is a state-of-the art training and clinical services facility that is effective at providing evidence-based therapy and assessment services to the region within a supportive climate for clients, staff, student therapists, and supervisors.

The Psychology Services Center (PSC) is a service, training, and research facility of the Psychology Department at the University of South Carolina. The PSC is a non-profit facility established in 1965 in order to provide therapy and assessment services to the University of South Carolina community and the Columbia Metropolitan area. The therapists at the PSC are doctoral candidates in the Clinical-Community and School Psychology Graduate Programs.  Each therapist is supervised by a licensed clinical or school psychologist who is also a faculty member of the USC Psychology Department or another related department.  The PSC provides services to children, families, couples and individual adults with a wide variety of presenting issues.   The services at the PSC are designed to provide clients with the highest quality, empirically-supported treatments available at very little cost to the client depending on ability to pay.  Our mental health services are designed to support individuals, couples, and families and help them successfully navigate change. When needed, clients are provided with necessary case management and coordinating services with medical doctors, advocates, and other relevant community partners.

Therapists work closely with faculty supervisors and develop an intervention plan that is consistent with the latest relevant research but that is also tailored to meet the varied needs and goals of our clients.  Our client-centered approach allows clients to be active agents in setting and achieving individualized treatment goals--we believe that clients have a unique understanding of their strengths as well as their weaknesses and are key change agents in the intervention process.
