The 26th NSF EPSCoR National Conference Brought Attendees from Around the Country to the Palmetto State

The 26th NSF EPSCoR National Conference, hosted by the UofSC Office of the Vice President for Research on Sunday, October 27 through Wednesday, October 30, drew more than 400 faculty, students, postdoctoral scholars and others for a packed program of speakers, breakout sessions and more, around the theme of "Science and Partnerships Across Disciplinary Boundaries."

White House Science Director to Seek Policy Input from UofSC Faculty

Dr. Kelvin Droegemeier, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director and Science Advisor to the President of the United States, will convene a luncheon on Monday, October 28, to discuss research policy with UofSC faculty members.

Office of Research Accepting 2020 Breakthrough Award Nominations

The Office of the Vice President for Research is seeking nominations for our three signature Breakthrough award programs: Breakthrough Leadership in Research, Breakthrough Stars and Breakthrough Graduate Scholars. All nominations for these programs are due by Friday, October 18, 2019.

SPARC Graduate Research Grant Workshops Begin August 29

The Office of the Vice President for Research is accepting SPARC Grant applications until Wednesday, November 13. SPARC applicants are required to attend a SPARC application workshop, which will be offered four times beginning on Thursday, August 29.

University of South Carolina Ranks Among Top Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Utility Patents in 2018

For the seventh year in a row, the University of South Carolina has been named one of the top 100 worldwide universities granted utility patents in 2018 by the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association.

2019 Summer Research Symposium Showcases Undergraduate Scholarship

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to invite undergraduate students working on summer research projects with UofSC faculty to share their work at the 2019 Summer Research Symposium on Thursday, August 1, in the Thomas Cooper Library's Hollings Program Room.

Office of the Vice President for Research Offers Funding for STEM Equipment

The Office of the Vice President for Research has received funding from the South Carolina Lottery program to purchase state-of-the-art research equipment to develop and sustain interdisciplinary research. The office will coordinate an internal competition to select the final project for funding. Proposals are due by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1.

Undergraduate Researchers are Invited to the "Research: Next Steps to Success" Workshop Series

All undergraduate students conducting research on UofSC campuses this summer are encouraged to join the Office of the Vice President for Research for our summer workshop series, Research: Next Steps to Success, beginning on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

Two UofSC Faculty Members Honored with 2019 Governor's Awards for Excellence in Science

Governor Henry McMaster presented the 2019 Governor's Award for Excellence in Scientific Awareness to Dr. Timothy Mousseau, Department of Biological Sciences, and the 2019 Young Scientist Award for Excellence in Scientific Research to Dr. Hui Wang, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Office of Research Awards 2019 ASPIRE Grants to UofSC Faculty

The Office of the Vice President for Research is proud to announce the results of our 2019 ASPIRE faculty research funding competition. Since it began in 2012, the annual ASPIRE grant program has funded promising research and shared research infrastructure, to enhance research and scholarship throughout the UofSC system.

The University of South Carolina Continues to Rank Among the Nation's Most Elite Research Institutions

The University of South Carolina has retained its top "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very high research activity" designation in the 2018 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Only 130 universities, including Harvard and Stanford, share this elite designation.

2018-2019 SPARC Grants Fund Meritorious Graduate Student Research Projects

Each year, the Office of the Vice President for Research offers graduate students in all areas of study a unique opportunity to compete for grants of up to $5,000 to fund research, scholarly and creative projects. This academic year, 57 students from eight different academic units will receive SPARC grants.
