UofSC Professors Take Home Awards at Annual ADEIL Conference

Two College of Arts and Sciences courses won awards at the annual Association for Distance Education and Independent Learning (ADEIL) Conference. ADEIL is a professional association for all those engaged in or interested in distance learning. With the guidance of instructional designers from CTE, award winners Hayden Smith and Charles Schumpert brought home victories.

Carolina Online Learning and Teaching: Promoting Professional Development and Better Teaching

Looking for a program that expands your knowledge in the realm of online learning and teaching, while also having the opportunity to network with other scholars? The Center for Teaching Excellence's (CTE) Carolina Online Learning and Teaching (COLT) Certificate of Completion program is designed to provide faculty with the foundations for teaching either in online, blended or hybrid formats. COLT help builds faculty members' capacity in areas of pedagogy, course design, course development, teaching, and online course administration.

The Master Class Series

The Master Class Series is one of the seven certificates of completions that The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) offers. With enrollment limited to 16 full-time faculty in UofSC Columbia and Palmetto College campuses, the series is designed to provide specialized instruction to faculty members on a specific pedagogy discipline.

The Hyflex Model- An Effective Approach to Teaching with Numerous Modalities

In the Hybrid-Flexible (HyFlex) model for course delivery, faculty teach a class in multiple modalities simultaneously: face-to-face, online synchronous, and online asynchronous. While this model provides students with the flexibility in how they attend class and interact with the faculty member and their classmates, faculty must be able to seamlessly manage all three formats. The HyFlex Course Delivery: A Practical Guide resource is designed to provide faculty with recommendations on how to navigate this model in a simple and efficient manner while creating an equitable learning environment for everyone.

Virtual Reality in a Changing World

In these unprecedented times, many have been forced to adapt or expand their ways of teaching. This period of change can be used to explore areas of teaching that one has never ventured into. The world of virtual reality has become increasingly popular and could serve as an engaging and informative tool to utilize in online courses and remote settings.

CTE Has the Resources to Help You Keep Teaching

With remote teaching continuing through the summer term, CTE's instructional designers are prepared to help faculty every step of the way. Faculty can work with a member of CTE's Instructional Design Team to convert existing courses for online delivery. A series of webinars and virtual drop-in sessions that highlight a wide range of instructional tools and techniques are also available.

Congratulations to the 2020 Garnet Apple Award Winners

The Garnet Apple Award for Teaching Innovation honors the University of South Carolina's most exceptional faculty who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to best teaching practices and an ongoing record of developing innovative strategies to enhance student learning in their courses. Six recipients received this year's award and are to be commended for their accomplishments.
