Undergraduate Research

This is Undergraduate Research

At the University of South Carolina, undergraduate research is more than an opportunity—it’s a transformative experience. Through hands-on projects, faculty mentorship, and real-world discovery, students across all disciplines turn curiosity into knowledge and ideas into impact. This Is Undergraduate Research shares the stories of students who are building skills, finding their passions, and shaping their futures through research with world-class faculty at Carolina.  No matter where you are in your journey—just curious, beginning your first project, or presenting your work to the world—this is your space to see what we mean by Discovery For Every Discipline.

Undergraduate students contribute to meaningful research

This study produced data to inform decision making and spending in South Carolina and beyond. It's also been a great training ground for undergrad researchers, like our UR Ambassador, Lilly Kosoglow.  She describes her 2 summers conducting hands-on research in this lab as the most meaningful aspect of her research experience because of the connections and friends that she has made and the experiences she had. Here's what Robert Dunn says about the undergraduate researchers on his team. “This has been a very productive project with a strong collaborative team able to analyze long-term data sets. We are also focused on training the next generation of scientists and are proud of how many students were involved in the project. Their enthusiasm and motivation were key to our productivity.”    USC Today, October 1, 2025
