"Gru Steals the Moon" claimed the top spot in the annual Monster Mash competition. Featuring staffer Dan Stewart replicating the iconic image in the movie "Despicable Me," it was the handiwork of Elizabeth Merritt and Lawson Estridge.  

Monster Mash is a creative assignment in JOUR 560, the visual communications capstone portfolio class taught by associate professor Sabrina Habib. Students are tasked with doing a portrait of a faculty or staff member and creating a Halloween-inspired photo composite. Winners are selected via online voting.

Habib said that the student work exceeded her expectations. "Many of these seniors did the bulk of their courses online during the pandemic, but they are ending their time with us full of talent, skills and grit," she said. "I am really proud of this class!”

"The Cereal Killer" took the second place award. Created by Leigha Gray and Alex Marinelli, it featured Dean Tom Reichert eating a tasty treat of something resembling eyeballs.

Logan Ponce and Joshua Burkhead won third place with "Killer Cocktober," which featured senior instructor Scott Farrand.
