Adopt a School partners your organization with a Title I school for a year of literacy service. This service can include on-site storytime programming with Cocky for your whole group, little free library installation, library upkeep, and more. Each of these schools is located inside a book desert, where fewer than 10% of homes have more than 100 books. Your service will impact these home libraries and lead to increased literacy across the school.
Organizations can expect to spend $2500-$4300, depending on the size and location of the school. CRE will work with you to match you with a school within your budget.
Storytime Programming
Join Cocky for storytime with the students!
CRE programming includes songs, read alouds, and fun for your whole group. Every student receives a giveaway book and makes the promise to read every day.
This programming is perfect for a team-building event. CRE will collaborate with you to create a memorable experience for both the students and your employees.
Cost
The CRE storytime experience includes read alouds, giveaway books, and photos with Cocky.
This number is dependent on the number of students enrolled at the school and the location in the state. The average cost per book is $3.50.
For example, a small Richland County school may cost $1000, while a larger school in Charleston County will cost $2800.
Little Free Libraries
Every school will receive a Little Free Library and the promise to keep it stocked for the school year.
This Little Free Library includes a custom sign post with your group name and is your responsibility for the year — that means you get to decorate it, unveil it, and maintain its upkeep.
There are a few ways you can get books for your library:
- CRE will purchase books for you.
- Hold a book drive or buy your own books!

The average cost of a year of Little Free Library Service is $1500 if CRE purchases the books for you.
