Background

Lena Sadiwskyj spent more than 11 years as a network reporter and producer for CBC Television in Canada. She came to the USA, to be an assistant professor of journalism at the University of Missouri and executive producer at KOMU-TV. Sadiwskyj held news management roles at television stations in Birmingham, Dallas and Phoenix. As a news director, she has led newsrooms in Shreveport, Orlando, Tucson, Knoxville, Dothan and most recently at WACH Fox News in Columbia, where she hired more than 10 broadcast graduates from our School of Journalism.

Sadiwskyj's digital experience includes the role of editor-in-chief, for Taptu, in Cambridge, England . She was responsible for content strategy and execution; the app was  introduced in the Apple store in November 2010.

In 1992, while teaching at Missouri, Lena Sadiwskyj was chosen to be part of a news and broadcast management team that consulted TV and radio journalists in Warsaw and Krakow, as Poland moved from Communism to a democracy.

Teaching

Sadiwskyj believes in hands-on instruction, constructive coaching and mentoring. She develops an engaging, collaborative environment, so students grow in critical thinking and creative skills. Sadiwskyj also taught Capstone classes at the University of Missouri, where she was an assistant professor of journalism.

She will teach three courses, while co-teaching Senior Semester, including  Writing for Mass Communications, Advanced Broadcast and Online Journalism Production, and Digital Journalism.

Awards

Sadiwskyj has won multiple Associated Press and regional journalism awards for investigative reporting, breaking news coverage and special reports.

Personal

Sadiwskyj has lived in three countries (England, Canada and the United States) and worked as a journalist and newsroom leader in two provinces and eight states. She has traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean and North America.

In 2019, she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and has plans for more ecotourism adventures. She was named "Media Ambassador" for the 2023 SC7 Expedition and loves to hike. She plays USTA tennis.

Sadiwskyj enjoys most music and is known to share songs with her teams, as great examples of writing to video. She also loves films: an all-time favorite is "Cinema Paradiso."
