The Center for Health and Well-Being is hosting The Blood Connection's Midlands site for plasma donations from people that have recovered from COVID-19. This is part of a national study by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Mayo Clinic. Locally, the study is headed by the chair of internal medicine at the School of Medicine, Dr. Helmut Albrecht.
Donations of convalescent plasma can be made by any person in the community that has a documented positive coronavirus diagnostic test or a positive antibody test. Donors must be symptom-free for at least 14 days. In addition, whole blood donations are also being accepted from any healthy patient.
Both convalescent plasma and whole blood donations are being accepted Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
To schedule your donation and get details, call The Blood Connection at 864-751-1168.
