    Gamecock Battalion

    a national reputation for excellence

The Gamecock Battalion consists of motivated men and women who seek to serve their country as officers in the United States Navy or Marine Corps, with a rich history of dedicated service to country and community. The Gamecock Battalion has established a national reputation for excellence by instilling confidence, integrity, loyalty, and esprit de corps in the civilian and military communities.

Navy ROTC is open to majors across the University of South Carolina. Each Navy ROTC student is assigned an NROTC staff advisor who provides academic, fitness, and character guidance to aid in their development as future leaders. The Navy ROTC program at the University of South Carolina is dedicated to your personal success. Students will take one NROTC course per semester in addition to pursuing excellence in their chosen field of study.

Through the NROTC Program, students grow in their self-confidence, discipline, and leadership to prepare them for the future. After 4 years in the tight-knit community of a military organization, graduates of the NROTC program are prepared to enter the workforce as leaders with a sense of service. Following their service to the military, our alumni have pursued careers as CEOs, politicians, and other leadership positions.

Through our training program, midshipmen have the opportunity to fly jets, drive submarines, and go to sea around the world. Our midshipmen participate in NROTC directed physical training twice a week and military training once a week in addition to their course work.  This training prepares midshipmen to pass military physical tests.
