Research and Teaching Interests

Dr. Nandita Perumal is a perinatal and pediatric epidemiologist and an applied public health researcher with expertise in leading interdisciplinary research to improve maternal, newborn, and child health in vulnerable populations. A key focus of her work is in understanding the causes of adverse events in the perinatal period and the consequences for health and development throughout the life course, particularly in low-resource settings. Her research has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Thrasher Research Foundation, among others. Dr. Perumal received her PhD and MPH in epidemiology from the University of Toronto and holds a BSc in Human Nutrition from McGill University. She completed her postdoctoral research in the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
