Civil and Environmental Engineering

Our Academics

Civil engineers design, construct and maintain the infrastructure and systems that support our present-day society. But, we do not stop there. We dream the systems that will reshape our communities for the years to come. As a civil engineer, you will have an opportunity to work on innovative transportation systems; design bigger and more sustainable buildings; provide communities with clean water and sustainable waste techniques; design systems to improve resilience for flooding and other natural and man-made hazards.

Undergraduate Programs

Civil Engineering (B.S.E)

In our undergraduate program, you will explore the planning, design, and construction of projects that define civilization. Civil engineers have built landmarks that now stand as tributes to the profession's creative spirit and ingenuity. Civil engineering is everywhere: the buildings in which we live and work, the roads on which we travel, the water we drink and the bridges we cross.

Minor in Environmental and Sustainable Engineering

The Environmental and Sustainable Engineering Minor is designed to broaden the academic background of all undergraduate students seeking a career in sustainable environmental fields and to provide fundamentals required to pursue graduate studies in environmental engineering.

Graduate Programs

Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering (Ph.D.)

The 60 semester-hour research intensive doctoral program prepares students to meet growing demands for research and development in industry and academia.

Master of Science in Civil Engineering (M.S.)

The 30 semester-hour M.S. program includes a thesis and serves professionals that would like to deepen their knowledge in a civil and environmental engineering sub-discipline.

Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering (M.E.)

The 30 semester-hour M.E. program is designed to give students focused training in the practice of civil and environmental engineering.  This degree does not require a thesis and serves civil and environmental engineers who would like to enhance their qualifications within the industry.

Railway Engineering (Certificate)

The 12-hour Railway Engineering Certificate prepares graduates for successful careers in the rail industry. The courses for this certificate have been designed based on industry feedback and target professionals that would like to enter this exciting field.
