Our Mission, Core Commitments, and Objectives
At the University of South Carolina’s Center for Transition Research and Leadership (CTRL), our mission is to pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable society for young people with disabilities as they transition to adulthood through novel approaches to research, community-integrated supports, knowledge translation, and professional training.
We are committed to enhancing the quality of life of youth and young adults with disabilities by fostering innovation, collaboration, and youth empowerment and ensuring that our efforts are grounded through the input and leadership of disability-led organizations like Able South Carolina.
Our work is centered around four primary objectives:
- Develop and expand knowledge aimed at improving high school and college opportunities and for youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disability (ID/D) through grant-funded research.
- Produce and provide pre-service and in-service training on secondary transition and inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) practices to graduate students in the College of Education and IPSE practitioners across the country.
- Cultivate and refine novel transition opportunities to enhance post-school outcomes for youth and young adults with disabilities.
- Provide resources to secondary transition stakeholders and IPSEs in South Carolina and across the country aimed at improving service delivery.
