Gearing up for Fall?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Hey faculty and staff members: Fall semester will be here before you know it. As you’re putting the final touches on your syllabi and course plans, don’t forget about information instruction from the library. We have a number of great ways to help your students become better information searchers and users.

  • Live Instruction Sessions: Have a librarian demonstrate for your courses the library resources and skills they will need to be successful in completing their assignments. To sign-up, visit http://www.sc.edu/library/pubserv/libinstruct.html
  • LibGuides: Don’t have enough class sessions to come to the library? Work with a librarian to create a LibGuide specifically tailored for your course and their assignments. LibGuides are flexible and dynamic and can be easily linked to through course websites and BlackBoard. LibGuides can also be revised and easily reposted when you teach a course in later semesters.
  • Individualized Library Assistance: We can work together to create customized instruction and help for your students based on their needs and your course requirements.

So as your gearing up for fall, please feel free to call or email me. We’re from the library, and we’re here to help.

Blackwell transition to Wiley

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

This weekend, June 28 & 29, the online Blackwell titles will be merged with Wiley.  During the transition both Blackwell Synergy and Wiley Interscience will be unavailable.  So if you are trying to access a journal through either of these sources this weekend you might get denied.  Remember to search for journal titles in TDnet as many titles are available through multiple vendors and you might be able to access the full text through EBSCO instead of Blackwell or Wiley.  This will also impact links in PubMed as Blackwell is one of the publishers that we have direct linking to in PudMed.  Again, be sure to check in TDnet if you encounter problems with Blackwell or Wiley this weekend.  Things should be accessible as usual by Monday.

If you have questions or need assistance in determining if an article is available elsewhere, please call the Reference Desk at 803-777-4866.

ACS Journals Off-Campus Access down

Friday, March 21st, 2008

**Back up and running**

ACS has blocked our proxy server from accessing the online journals, but we’re aware of the problem and trying to reach ACS to resolve the issue. Access is still available on-campus and I’ll update this entry when we get the proxy access back again.

Sorry for any inconvenience.
