LGers,
Thanks to Laurel’s genius, I’ve stolen her Gamecock Power Search code for LibGuides and created side boxes for each of the fourteen quicksearch categories - one with each category defaulted at the top of the drop down. (See example on the Find Articles tab in my Sociology guide http://guides.library.sc.edu/content.php?mode=preview&pid=2381&sid=11733.)
These boxes are available for copying into your LibGuides from my *unpublished* guide called “GPS Search Boxes”. I’ve used short titles to distinguish the categories. After you copy, you’ll probably want to edit the box title and the generic text blurb at the top of the box.
GPS - Arts
GPS - Bus & Econ
GPS - Gen & Ethnic Stud

GPS - History
GPS - Lang & Lit
GPS - Law
GPS - Med & Health Sci
GPS - Relg & Phil
GPS - Sci & Tech
GPS - Social Sciences
GPS - Gen’l Purpose
GPS - Digital Collections
GPS - Library Catalog
A coupla things:
1. I suggest that you COPY the box, not Link to it. This allows you to edit the title of the box and the content of the blurb for your specific needs. All of the category boxes are set up to “call” the same javascript, so we should be able to keep the code updated even with copying.
2. After copying, don’t panic when you don’t see the search text box or the GO button - you will when you hit preview.
Let me know if you have any q’s or if something doesn’t work!
