Student Rights and Responsibilities

For more than 100 years, the Moore School has provided outstanding business education to students who have gone on to become leaders in every business sector. The Moore School is committed to educating leaders in global business and to playing a central role in the economic growth of the state by bringing the world to South Carolina and South Carolina to the world.

The university and the Moore School are also committed to encouraging and supporting academic freedom and integrity and protecting the rights of students to live and study in a safe, supportive environment while also establishing expectations for behavior as a Moore School student.

In addition to rights and responsibilities established by the university, the Moore School has also developed a student Code of Conduct and provided a process to address student grievances.

The UofSC Office of Student Conduct provides information on student responsibilities and assists students with case resolution options if they are alleged to be in violation of the UofSC Student Code of Conduct. The student conduct process is committed to providing experiences, processes and resources that support the advancement of students’ principled decision-making, responsible citizenship and adherence to The Carolinian Creed. The office is also committed to upholding an environment that supports the health and safety of members of our community so that they can reach academic goals without unnecessary impediments.

The Moore School is recognized globally for educating students who are prepared to become responsible business and civic leaders. An effective learning environment where students and faculty value integrity, professionalism and diligence is foundational to this mission. Consistent with these values, UofSC's Leadership Council and the faculty of the Moore School expect students to:

Spend a minimum of two hours outside of class studying for each hour of classroom time.
Exhibit classroom behavior that is respectful to faculty and fellow students.
Refrain from the use of phones and other electronic equipment during class unless permitted by the instructor.
Arrive to class on time, actively participate in class and not leave class early.
Keep up with assigned readings and complete assignments on time.
Contribute fully to team assignments.
Respect the university’s staff and be responsible stewards of its facilities.
Abide by the University of South Carolina Honor Code approved by the Undergraduate Student Leadership Council and the faculty of the Darla Moore School of Business.
