Major in African American Studies
You will develop an understanding of race and the African American experience and develop service-learning experience by applying your knowledge in local civic organizations, public agencies, churches and research institutes. As an AFAM Studies major, you will learn social, historical and cultural foundations and study in discipline-based courses.
Minor in African American Studies
A minor in African American Studies strengthens your undergraduate degree by providing
interdisciplinary tools and resources to evaluate historical, cultural, social, economic
and political developments in South Carolina, the South and beyond. In addition to
two core courses, students will select related courses in other disciplines (as approved
by the program director and faculty advisors).
For details, view our major and minor in the Academic Bulletin, or read our course offerings for the current
semester.
