To submit an engagement for inclusion in the BTCM Engagement Catalog, the educator must complete a catalog entry form (proposal) that describes what students do, the intended educational benefits, and the structure designed to produce the intended benefits.
All engagements accepted into the Engagement Catalog will be considered for special designation as an Experiential Learning Opportunity (ELO) based on Center for Integrative and Experiential Learning (CIEL) review.
Experiential courses are included in the Engagement Catalog only if they are approved by CIEL for designation as an ELO.
To request ELO designation of your experiential course:
- Attach a course syllabus that states the intended learning outcomes and describes course learning activities, including how students receive feedback and are engaged in reflection on their learning
- Provide a short description of the course from the student perspective--what does the engagement in this course look like?
- Identify the time commitment required of students to complete activities
- Answer questions about student feedback methods, frequency, and timeline
- Answer questions about student reflection methods, frequency, and timeline

To assure the accuracy and integrity of the USC Experience transcript, educators (engagement providers) are expected to:
- Assure accuracy of their catalog entry and associated records collected in BTCM by periodically reviewing catalog entries and records collected and reporting any concerns
immediately.
- See all Engagement Catalog entries via the Engagement Catalog
- See your engagement proposal(s) and associated student records via https://www.sc.edu/btcmatters/admin/
- Help students recognize their learning and improve their ability to describe the knowledge and skills gained by making expectations clear to students from the beginning of the engagement and
aligning all aspects of the engagement.
- Point out to students the Knowledge and Skills named in the Engagement Catalog entry
- In your Feedback to students on their performance and development in the engagement, include feedback on student’s development of the named knowledge and skills
- In prompts for student Reflection on Learning, include questions about their application and development of named knowledge and skills in the activities of the engagement, and how these skills may be transferable to other situations
The USC Experience transcript reports student’s development of Knowledge and Skills you name in the catalog entry; the integrity of the transcript requires your attention to each student’s awareness of the application and development of the named knowledge and skills in the activities that comprise the engagement.
