Experiential Learning Grants
In order to promote student engagement beyond the classroom, CIEL offers three different
grants to enable the development of new and revised programs, as well as collaboration
between departments, offices, academic units, and student affairs.
Beyond the classroom engagement refers to experiences outside “traditional” classroom
instruction/curriculum. Within the classroom activities and active learning experiences
that further enhance learning fall under this umbrella.
Priority will be given to grant applications that encourage experiential learning
opportunities and critical reflection both within and beyond the classroom for historically
under-engaged populations. These populations include, but are not limited to, First
Gen and Pell-grant eligible students, transfer students, first year students, and
graduate students.
Experiential Learning Community of Practice Grants
Up to $5000 to develop or revise a course or program that provides students with the
opportunity to engage in beyond the classroom experiences.
Grantees participate in a community of practice to provide and receive support while
completing their grant project, discuss practices of integrative and experiential
learning, and share how faculty and staff in the CoP support students in their respective
programs and departments.
No upcoming due dates for Academic Year 2026-2027
Experiential Learning Impact Grants
Up to $3000 to build a new program, or enhance an existing one, that engages students beyond the classroom and contributes to departmental or unit learning outcomes.

or programs, e.g. tickets to a museum, event, transportation, funding for a speaker.
