Selma Saunders is a Nurse Practitioner serving as Clinical Assistant Professor for the USC School of Medicine Columbia with Brain Health.
Through collaborative relationships with primary care providers, Saunders sees patients experiencing cognitive decline. She works closely with USC Brain Health’s Speech-Language Pathologists to conduct in-depth cognitive evaluations, discuss findings with patients and their caregivers, and outline personalized, thorough care plans that are implemented by referring providers.
Saunders is a graduate of the USC School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
After serving as a Women’s & Neonatal Nurse at Prisma Baptist for five years, Saunders began practicing family medicine as lead provider at a rural family practice at a Federally Qualified Health Care Center. There, she provided comprehensive primary care services to underserved populations and cared for a wide variety of patients including those with dementia and other cognitive conditions. Saunders also precepted and mentored students and onboarded new providers.
Saunders is passionate about holistic and preventative approaches to care. She enjoys empowering patients through education, especially concerning lifestyle changes that support brain health and overall well-being. Saunders has a deep belief in the power of movement, nutrition and wellness habits to improve long-term outcomes.
