Biography

Rob McMahon is a Nurse Practitioner serving as Assistant Clinical Faculty for the USC School of Medicine Columbia with Brain Health.

He is currently working to develop clinical pathways for patients referred from Primary Care with cognitive issues. He works closely with Speech-language Pathologists in Sumter and Winnsboro, SC to complete comprehensive clinical cognitive assessments and  develop detailed cognitive care plans to be implemented by primary care. 

McMahon is a 1990 graduate of the USC School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a 1998 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

His past work experience includes working in rural primary care, troop care and deployment health with the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, SC and deployed operationally with the US Navy providing primary care and deployment health screenings.

McMahon comes to the SOMC after working for the last 11 years in internal medicine in Sumter, SC, where he provided direct primary care to the greater Sumter community and precepted numerous Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant students in clinical training. 

In 2018 McMahon retired as a Captain from the U.S. Navy Reserve after more than 34 years of service working in primary care, operational medicine, deployment health and Navy Medicine Leadership. He has served as an advisor and speaker on topics related to operational medicine and deployment health and readiness.

He brings a wealth of clinical experience in primary care and has a passion for caring for the rural communities of South Carolina. He sees brain health, particularly appropriate management of cognitive health, as a rising wave in health care today that requires immediate attention.

He is married to Jennifer McMahon and has three adult daughters.
