USC Brain Health

USC Brain Health was established in fall 2023 to address the need for cognitive healthcare throughout South Carolina. The state’s rapidly growing population of people ages 65+, pared with the lack of resources for cognitive healthcare statewide is driving two primary initiatives. First, Brain Health has established the expanding Brain Health Network through partnerships with existing health systems. By offering clinics around the state, it provides access to advanced, collaborative care for populations in statewide and provides caregiver and community support to reduce disparities in cognitive care. Second, the Brain Health Center, opening in Columbia in early 2026, will be  a hub for cognitive services, advanced new technologies, facilities and tools that will drive new research and provide opportunities for patients to participate in clinical trials. Through cutting-edge research, clinicians and researchers will gain new insight into dementia and develop more effective treatments and care protocols to enhance the lives of patients across the state.

Office for the Study of Aging

The Office for the Study of Aging (OSA) was founded in 1988 by Ms. Carol Cornman when the SC Alzheimer’s Disease Registry was established to learn more about and support South Carolinians who develop Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). The core mission of the OSA is to prepare communities to meet the needs of a growing older adult population and to enhance the quality of life for these individuals as they age. The OSA values groundbreaking research and strives to provide all findings in practical and useable formats. In addition, the OSA facilitates research on aging-related issues to provide information to policy makers, delivers evidence-informed education on dementia, and offers technical assistance for the development and evaluation of programs for older adults.

Alzheimer's Association SC

The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia - by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. In South Carolina, we are fortunate to have the nation’s most comprehensive statewide registry of residents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. In partnership with the SC Alzheimer's Disease Registry, the Alzheimer's Association SC Chapter has produced county fact sheets to shed light on the impact of dementia on our local communities.
