Decide it.

What first motivated you to visit the Career Center?
Around the time of Orientation during the summer before freshman year, I visited the Career Center because I had not yet decided on a major. Vicki Hamby was incredibly helpful and gave me several different tests to determine which career path would be the best fit for me, based on my personality. I then decided to pursue a career in business, and I have absolutely loved it. I graduated in May 2011 with a degree in Finance and Insurance/Risk Management and a Spanish minor.

What Career Center services have you used?
Aside from career mentoring and personality profile tests, I have used the center many times for assistance with other topics. These have included creating a resume, creating cover letters, revising and updating a resume, how to handle job fairs, networking advice, and tips on interviewing. I have really appreciated the insight and guidance provided to me by the Career Center staff.

What did you learn from these services and how are you using them now?
The knowledge and skills I gained regarding resumes, job fairs, networking, and interviewing not only helped me during my college career, but will continue to help me throughout my professional career as well.

How do you feel you have benefited from using the Career Center?
The Career Center helped me to emphasize my skills and experiences in resume format as well as in conversations with potential employers at job fairs and during interviews. These skills helped me to obtain several meaningful internships throughout my college career. While I worked with the Office of Career Management during my junior and senior years in the Moore School of Business, I do not doubt that the Career Center played a significant role in my ability to obtain my ideal job upon graduation.

What would you suggest to students who are beginning to consider their job or internship search?
Take a proactive role in your career development, as it is no one’s responsibility but your own. Do not hesitate to utilize the services offered to you by the USC Career Center. The friendly staff members care about your success and are passionate about helping you on that journey – if you first help yourself by taking the initiative to start the process. Use your four years wisely to make yourself the most marketable and experienced candidate you can!
