The scholarship, named in honor of Thomas L. Stepp, provides $2,000 per academic year, renewable for three years as long as the student completes 24 semester hours each school year and has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of each academic year. A student may receive the award in addition to a General University Scholarship or departmental scholarship.
A student must be a high school senior who has been admitted to the upcoming freshman class at the University of South Carolina.
Applicants must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid and submit it to the the USC Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships by April 1.
A Board of Visitors selection committee will select five finalists after reviewing each applicant's application, and academic and financial information. The top student will be offered the scholarship with a response date of May 1. If the scholarship is declined, the next student will be offered the scholarship.
