A Day in the Life of a Freshman at USC

Life as a freshman in college is an exciting time filled with new experiences. Adjusting to college means navigating a full class schedule, finding time for personal interests and maintaining a healthy lifestyle all become a part of your daily routine. Join me as I take you through a typical day in the life as a freshman college student at USC!

7:00 a.m. - Rise and Shine

A typical day for me begins bright and early at 7:00 a.m. While the temptation to hit the snooze button may be strong, getting up early sets the tone for a productive day ahead.

7:30 a.m. - Workout/Go for a Walk

Exercise is not only about physical health — it's also a great way for you to boost your energy levels and clear your head. I like to kick start my day with a workout or walk by the riverwalk or around campus to keep my body and mind in tip-top shape. When I’m done, I always feel ready to take on the day ahead.

10:05 a.m. - First Class: Speech

My first class of the day begins at 10:05 a.m. This is Speech 140. I have learned so much in this class and it has really helped me grow my confidence when speaking in front of groups. It has also taught me how to make a speech successful, which will greatly benefit me in the future.

Study Time

I have a break between classes which makes for a great time to get a little schoolwork done at the library or on the Horseshoe before my next class. Whether I am reviewing lecture notes, working on assignments or preparing for upcoming exams, this focused time helps keep my academic responsibilities in check.

11:40 a.m. - Second Class: Photography

After speech class, I head straight to Journalism 347 which is an intro to photography class for visual communications majors. This is one of my favorite classes! I love all the hands-on experience we get in this class and projects we do!

1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Job/Internship

Many students have jobs or internships during the week. These opportunities are a great way to get real world experience in your desired career and grow your resume! I get the pleasure of being a digital marketing intern for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions! Today I am working on a video project!

3:30 - 5:30 p.m. - Homework

Before dinner, my time is dedicated to homework, projects and my three online classes. Committing this time to my classes ensures that I effectively manage my coursework and meet any deadlines.

5:45 - 7:00 p.m. - Dinner with friends

Making time for friends is very important, one of my favorite things to do is go out to dinner or get ice cream with my friends at least once or twice a week.

7:00 - 9:00 p.m. - TV/Chill Time

To unwind and take a mental break, I leave my evenings open for some TV or chill time. Whether it's catching up on my favorite shows or spending time with friends, this time is essential for maintaining a healthy balance.

10:00 p.m. - Bedtime

With a full day of activities complete, it's time to hit the hay.

Whether it's hitting the books for a study session or enjoying an outing with friends, each part of your day will become a lasting memory woven into your Gamecock journey. I hope this glimpse into my world has painted a picture of what a day in the life of a Gamecock is like.
