Scott Verzyl leads Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships; the Office of the University Registrar, the Visitor Center, New Student Orientation, TRIO Programs, Veterans Services and Enrollment Analytics.
Before joining the University of South Carolina in 2004, he held leadership positions at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, including associate vice president for enrollment services, registrar and director of admissions. He previously was associate registrar and assistant director of admissions at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Verzyl earned his bachelor's degree from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Kennesaw State University.
He is active in many professional organizations and is frequently asked to make presentations at national conferences on enrollment management-related topics. He has served on the College Board’s Board of Trustees and on the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee. He was the recipient of the 2012 American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) National Strategic Enrollment Management Excellence Award.
Since Verzyl joined the University of South Carolina in 2004, the university has:
- increased undergraduate enrollment by 50%
- nearly doubled the size of the freshman class
- increased the number of underrepresented minorities in the freshman class
- increased the average freshman SAT score to 1276 from 1149
- doubled the size of the South Carolina Honors college
- improved the freshman to sophomore retention rate by seven percentage points
- improved the six-year graduation rate by 10 percentage points
- nearly doubled the four-year graduation rate
- created the Gamecock Guarantee, which has served nearly 1,500 students
- created the Capstone Scholars program, which has nearly quadrupled in size
- improved graduation rates for Pell Grant recipients.
