      Description: This award supports individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose bold and highly innovative research projects with the potential to produce a major impact on broad, important areas relevant to the mission of NIH. The proposed research must reflect substantially different scientific directions from those already being pursued in the investigator’s research program or elsewhere.
    • NIH Director’s Early Independence Award (DP5 Clinical Trial Optional) (RFA-RM-27-004)
      Deadline: September 10, 2026
      Description: This award helps talented new researchers begin an independent research program soon after finishing their doctoral degree or clinical training, without first doing postdoctoral training. The award accepts applications on any topic fitting the NIH mission.

      Description: This program will pursue foundational knowledge on interactions between and within terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, along with changes to their biogeochemistry and biodiversity.
    • Habitable Worlds Observatory Precursor Science Investigations (NNH25ZDA001N-HWOPSI)
      Deadline: September 10, 2026
      Description: The HWO mission concept would be the first space mission designed specifically to search for life outside our solar system and would perform transformative science across astrophysics and planetary science. This program aims to advance the scientific foundation that would reduce risk for a potential future HWO mission.
    • Space Biology: Research Studies (NNH25ZDA001N-SBR)
      Deadline: December 31, 2026
      Description: This program will increase understanding of how living systems respond to environments encountered during space exploration, including the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) environment, deep space conditions beyond LEO, and transit to/maintenance of a sustainable presence in Lunar and Martian environments.

      Description: This program supports coordinated efforts in fundamental theory and computational techniques to make astrophysics advances extending beyond the scope of individual investigator projects.

      Description: This program investigates unforeseen or unpredictable Earth system events and opportunities requiring a rapid response as well as novel ideas of potential high merit and relevance to advance Earth remote sensing that have not otherwise been solicited by NASA in the past three years.

    • National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER): Research Training Programs in Special Education
      Deadline: October 1, 2026
      Description: This program supports individuals conducting special education and early intervention research on one of the following topics: (1) Early Career Development and Mentoring or (2) Methods Training for Special Education Research. The Early Career program supports an integrated research and career development plan for early career investigators whose research careers focus on learners with or at risk for disabilities. The Methods Training program funds training to help current education researchers conduct rigorous and relevant research focused on analyzing large administrative datasets to address research questions related to learners with or at risk for disabilities.
    • National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER): Using Longitudinal Data to Support State Education Policymaking in Special Education

      Description: This program focuses on the use of statewide longitudinal data systems to support program and policy decisions pertaining to learners with or at risk for disabilities.

      Description: This program provides a wide range of methodological and statistical tools to conduct rigorous education research on one of the following topics: (1) Core Grants or (2) Toolkits, Guidelines, Compendia, Review Papers, and Curated Data Resources (Toolkits). The Core Grants topic supports the development of new and improved statistical and research methods for use by education researchers. The Toolkits Grants topic supports compiling existing research and information for a given method into products, such as toolkits, guidelines, compendia, review papers, curated data resources, workshops that help education researchers understand and apply the method.
    • National Center for Education Research (NCER): Research Training Programs in The Education Sciences

      Description: This program prepares individuals to conduct education research that addresses one of the following issues: (1) Early Career Development and Mentoring Program for Education Research (Early Career) or (2) Methods Training for Education Research (Methods Training). The Early Career program provides support for an integrated research and career development plan for early career investigators. The Methods Training program funds training to help current education researchers maintain and enhance their research and analysis skills to conduct rigorous and relevant education research.
