Online Mandatory Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training FAQs

Why are we taking Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training?
The Carolinian Creed calls us to the highest standard of civility and respect for one another. Therefore, not only must we model the behaviors that we expect from our students, but we must also actively inform ourselves on issues surrounding diversity, social justice, equality, discrimination and human relations.

Why is the training mandatory?
The Office of Equal Opportunity Programs sponsors the training (supported by Title IV, the Division of Human Resources, the Office of the Provost, and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion).  It fulfills a commitment to educating all South Carolina faculty and staff about issues related to Title IX, which prohibits discrimination based on sex in any education program or activity that receives federal funding.

How do I access training?
You will receive an email from the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs or the vendor (EverFi) to your university email account to allow you to click on a link and access the training using your University of South Carolina credentials.  You can also access the training link on the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs website under the faculty staff training tab.  As the deadline approaches, you will receive reminder emails containing the link and a reminder to prompt you to complete training.

How long does the training take to complete?
Estimates vary; however, it may take you two to four hours to complete the mandatory training.

What if I have to exit/stop before completing the whole course, will I have to start over again?
No, the training module is comprised of segments. If you can’t complete your training in a single session, you can log out of the module and then log back in at your convenience using the same link. The program will take you to the segment where you left off.

Will I have to repeat this training every year?
No, once we have all current employees trained, you will only be required to complete a 25-minute refresher course in subsequent years.  This training will become part of the onboarding process for all new employees.

What happens if I do not complete the training by December 15?
Your supervisor will receive a report that indicates which employees have not completed the training, and the supervisor will follow-up accordingly.  Please print a copy of your certificate upon completion and send to your supervisor.  You also will be able to log in to the program and print a copy of the certification at any point after completion.

Where can I get help if I have technical issues completing the training?
If you experience technical issues with the training program, please use the “help” button located in the module. In addition, if you have general questions about the training , please email the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs at  Please note that the sheer number of employees who will email EOP will reduce the response time.
