October is Health Literacy Month, a time to learn about making informed health choices.

Health literacy is the capacity to obtain, communicate, process and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. Students are in the best situation for learning while in college, and learning about health, health care, health insurance and overall well-being are extremely important for their short and long-term success.

The theme for October is "Participate in Your Medical Decisions and Understand Health Care.

Student Health Services and Healthy Carolina will have information about health literacy at the farmers market 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 on Greene Street. The Student Health Services care team manager will be at the market to answer questions about health literacy.

More information about health literacy can be found on the Student Health Services website.
