Carolina Dining at the University of South Carolina has been ranked No. 23 out of 75 “Best Colleges for Food in America” by the Daily Meal.
The Daily Meal is a popular website for recipes, articles about dining and restaurant features. The website credited the ranking with the nine executive chefs that create dishes on campus as well as UofSC's unique restaurants like Top of Carolina and The Community Table. The website also highlighted Carolina Dining's Southern classic dishes like Fried Chicken Fridays and its sustainability efforts.
To assemble their rankings, the Daily Meal started out with a list of roughly 2,000 colleges, and after research and outreach to their dining services, they narrowed that list down to 300 contenders. After that, the final 75 were chosen by scoring each of those colleges on the following criteria: nutrition and sustainability, healthy food for the students, efforts for the environment, accessibility and service and variety.
Carolina Dining is regulated by nine executive chefs, and one certified executive chef, who create signature dishes. Carolina's dining service is made up of three “all-you-care-to-eat” dining halls and 27 on-campus retail locations.
