What UR peers never told U about Sex

Follow-up Activities

Since the presentation is designed to be interactive, the goal is to have students talking and discussing the issues as they arise within the presentation. Still, follow up activities may help in reinforcing the learning objectives and encourage more self-awareness, understanding and dialogue.

  • Journal Prompts: Students may be asked to journal about their experience, highlighting new learning and new information. For example:

" What are your thoughts, feelings, and attitudes about the parameter of consent"?

" Had you ever thought about sexual behavior on a continuum before, and how exactly is this continuum related to sexual risk management?"

  • Formal Paper Prompts or Assignments: Also students may be asked to think more thoroughly about some of the material such as drinking and decision making. For example, "Write a paper addressing the reasons why you think so many people make such bad and unhealthy decisions regarding sexual health and sexual behavior when they are drinking".

    Answer questions such as:

Does the level of drunkenness matter, so that if you are more or less drunk the consequences are different?

Does it really matter if one or both of the people are drunk? What are the consequences that are most scary when thinking about having sex while you have been drinking and/or your partner has been drinking?

What can or needs to be done to reduce these unhealthy behaviors, and who should initiate these interventions?

  • Discussion Questions: What did you all think about the presentation? Anything surprise you? What was it like to do the Knee Cap to Genital exercise? How would it be different if we were more comfortable talking about sex and genital without having to use sports terminology and euphemisms? Given how this current generation talks about sex and considering how previous generations talked about sex, what is the future for people's openness or reluctance to talk about sex?

  • Reflection Items Did any of the presentation's material make you think and assess your own behavior? How would you like to change your current behavior and/or attitudes, assuming you would like to change.
