ACE Academic Success
Academic Center for Excellence
ACE’s academic success presentations offer University 101 classes a variety of academic success tips, study strategies, advising information, time management resources, and many other academic support related topics. These presentations are interactive, with several in class activities, self-assessments, and practical learning skills. Instructors may choose from one of four presentations covering different academic success topics. We also offer the use of “clickers” or E-instruction for students to actively participate in the presentation.
Learning Outcomes
The Academic Success presentation supports University 101 learning outcomes:
I. Foster Academic Success
a) Adapt and apply appropriate academic strategies to their courses and learning experiences.
e) Identify and apply strategies to effectively manage time and priorities.
f) Identify relevant academic polices, processes, and procedures related to advising, course planning, and major exploration.
As a result of ACE presentations students will:
- Receive a wide variety of study strategies and tips in order to improve their current study habits.
- Learn about campus resources and know where to receive academic support on campus.
- Engage in self-assessments and active learning strategies in each ACE presentation.
Program Description
The presenters are ACE Coaches, who are trained graduate students primarily from the Higher Education and Student Affairs or Counselor Ed masters programs. Coaches are able to transfer their skills used in one-on-one sessions with students and developed in training to working in a classroom setting.
ACE Coaches are provided several resources to format their presentation. Lesson plan templates are provided for coaches to encourage consistency within the various study skills. All presentations include interactive Q&A as well as handouts and resources students can use in class.
